@jenclapp next time! Maybe an appropriate toast for our Vegas trip?! 8 months ago
I swear…it’s like game day in our office today..and I LOVE it!! This week soooo many people are wearing their burnt orange and white…and I am one of those many!
Day 13
So this outfit is pretty much cheating for me….because this is totally what I would wear as the average college student. My UT pullover and cropped khakis are about as casual as it comes. But at least I wore white flats and not flip flops!!
PS – I love UT football….it makes me feel like this:
Today I wore an avocado green 3/4 sleeve tee with charcoal dress slacks…the outfit pretty much looked like this:
Day 12
However, as much as I love the color of this tee I really don’t like the second-skin nature of this shirt. It hugs the body just a little too tightly for my comfort….which causes the tee to create some questionable silhouettes.
It may be time to go up a size in pants…these particular slacks left little room for things like breathing or eating. However, I’m holding out on purchasing new pants…mainly because I have a conspiracy theory that pants in general are retaliating for my hiatus from one of their kind (ie. jeans). Just see my Day 9 post if you don’t believe me.
I seriously overslept this morning…which I place full blame on my alarm clock (which also happens to be my cell phone…two strikes). You see, if my alarm clock (phone) would have been a little more persistent…maybe I would have made it to work on time. Instead, I woke up in a panic and threw on this little navy, empire-waisted sheath dress.
Day 11
Not the wisest choice for a chilly office setting. But I do have to give my alarm (phone) some credit…it had started making these really sad little beeps that eventually roused me…I think it knew I would hold it personally responsible. But I did take my revenge later when I “accidentally” dropped my phone (alarm) in the office kitchen. Maybe it learned it’s lesson.
I wore my Gap soft pink tee and Target grey petal skirt (I LOVE this skirt) today. This skirt always seems to be a conversation starter…and it looks way more expensive than it is (double bonus). It’s like a piece of art:
Day 10
However the downside of the petal skirt is that the backside looks like this (after sitting in the office all day long):
the other side
Looking more like a crushed petal skirt…not so pretty anymore.
I was pretty excited about wearing my new Gap Hip Slung Khakis today (the top…eh, not so much). My granny gave me the pants as a birthday gift [ie. she gave me the cash to go shopping, and this is what I bought with the money].
But before I further comment on my pants…let me discuss my shirt. Every time I wear this top (and I forget this until I’m actually wearing it)…I feel like a milkmaid. I’m not really sure why I have this mental association, considering milkmaids probably don’t sport plaid, deep-V, pouffy sleeve, baby-doll style blouses….but I do. Therefore to mimic my imagination…(cue yodelers)…this picture should have been taken in a picturesque field featuring Heidi roaming around in the background with a goat or something.
Day 9
Now, let’s talk about these slacks….I have two big issues with these pants:
1. Even though I purchased these pants approximately two weeks ago, and they fit perfectly…they are now practically a size too big. Most people would be delighted with this revelation…but this just ticks me off.
2. The pants make a “wheeeeeeet wheeeet wheeeeeeet” sound when I walk (think of the sound that corduroy makes [or the squeal of a small pig]…it’s fairly similar to that…but [possibly] more annoying). I find myself blushing as I scurry down the hallways….especially since walking faster only amplifies the problem. Instead, a slow mosey (waddling like a bow-legged cowboy) is the most questionable, yet best result-driven option. I just don’t mosey well.
My Old Navy Black trapeze-style dress is my go-to option when I’m clueless on what to wear. And for the Tuesday after Labor Day, it was the perfect choice. I didn’t feel like being photographed today so instead I made this sketch…
Day 5
The main issue that I’m having is that it is ridiculously cold in my office…and dresses are not exactly cold-friendly. I’m debating on whether or not I should invest in a small blanket or personal heater. OR a fire pit. OR maybe I should just wear leggings.
I’m running a little behind on my posts…courtesy of the holiday weekend. But better late than never, right?!
Ok…here was my get-up for this past Friday…
Unfortunately this outfit had one serious flaw…you could even say it was the “achilles heel” of the ensemble…
I originally started the day with a really cute pair of flats, but the shoes had murdered my feet by lunch time. I hadn’t anticipated this issue since these flats were actually made by Dr. Scholl’s. I caved at lunch and made an emergency detour to purchase a new pair of flip flops (which have the oh-so-fitting brand name of “I heart comfort”). These babies saved my feet, fo’ sho!
It feels appropriate to start today’s post with a little Beatles’ Birthday music (mainly b/c today is my birthday)…
Today I feel fantastic!! Although I must admit, I do kind of feel that I’ve cheated on my challenge. No, I’m not wearing jeans….but I am wearing khaki capris which is basically one step away from my workday restriction.
Day 2
The best part of this photo is that I’m standing in front of the “Brooke Birthday Homage” wall….which basically looks like a smiley face with a unibrow.
Today hasn’t been too difficult (which is a good thing considering it is only day 1), but it did take me a little longer to get ready this morning (which is a bad thing considering I like to push my snooze button at least 4 times). So I can’t count today as a complete success since I was running about 10 minutes late, but at least I look cute…right?
Day 1
What I didn’t expect was the immediate response I’ve gotten…I think I’ve had at least 5 people tell me how professional I look today, and about a dozen other compliments. I think this no-jeans thing may be better change than I thought! Overall, here’s the basic rundown….
Pros – compliments; my current dress allow for post-lunch comfort (a lot less restrictive than jeans…win!); and this dress basically feels like I’m wearing pajamas (double-win)
Cons – cold office, which means bare legs are not helpful; late to work (although….I’m not sure if this is entirely a “con”)
On a random note, I was listening to “Stronger” by Kanye West on the way into work today. For the first time, I noticed that one of the lyrics says “heard they’d do anything for a klondike”….and once again the question of “what would you do for a klondike bar?” is back on the table….
