Day 1

Posted by bmkeeler on September 1, 2009

Today hasn’t been too difficult (which is a good thing considering it is only day 1), but it did take me a little longer to get ready this morning (which is a bad thing considering I like to push my snooze button at least 4 times). So I can’t count today as a complete success since I was running about 10 minutes late, but at least I look cute…right?

Day 1

Day 1

What I didn’t expect was the immediate response I’ve gotten…I think I’ve had at least 5 people tell me how professional I look today, and about a dozen other compliments. I think this no-jeans thing may be better change than I thought! Overall, here’s the basic rundown….

Pros – compliments; my current dress allow for post-lunch comfort (a lot less restrictive than jeans…win!); and this dress basically feels like I’m wearing pajamas (double-win)

Cons – cold office, which means bare legs are not helpful; late to work (although….I’m not sure if this is entirely a “con”)

On a random note, I was listening to “Stronger” by Kanye West on the way into work today. For the first time, I noticed that one of the lyrics says “heard they’d do anything for a klondike”….and once again the question of “what would you do for a klondike bar?” is back on the table….

I was dreaming when I wrote this…

Posted by bmkeeler on August 4, 2009

because my own words aren’t as pretty,  here are some lyrics that have caught my attention…

I don’t know nothing except change will come
Year after year what we do is undone
Time keeps moving from a crawl to a run
I wonder if we’re gonna ever get home
Patty Griffin When It Don’t Come Easy

I was perched outside in the pouring rain
Trying to make myself a sail
Then I’ll float to you my darlin’
With the evening on my tail
Although not the most honest means of travel
It gets me there nonetheless
I’m a heartless man at worst, babe
And a helpless one at best
Paolo Nutini Candy

Been walking my mind to an easy time my back turned towards the sun
Lord knows when the cold wind blows it’ll turn your head around
Well, there’s hours of time on the telephone line to talk about things to come
Sweet dreams and flying machines in pieces on the ground
James Taylor Fire and Rain

And I’ve lost my mind, I’m sure I’ll find
Need to apologize for my
Lack of inhibition, for my belligerent condition
But with You this near I’m dizzy
Intoxicating You are to me
Completely captivating to see
Sending my world spinning You are, You see
David Crowder Band Intoxicating

Nickels and dimes
Memories and wines
George Strait Fool Hearted Memory

Get in the groove & let the good times roll
I’m gonna stay here till I soothe my soul
If it take all night long
Sam Cooke Good Times

To die by your side
Is such a heavenly way to die
The Smiths There is a Light That Never Goes Out

Are we really living or just walking dead now?
Or dreaming of a hope riding the wings of angels
The way we live
The way we die
What a tragedy, I’m so terrified
Day dreamers please wake up, we can’t sleep no more
Janelle Monae Sincerely, Jane

He’s a real nowhere man,
Sitting in his Nowhere Land,
Making all his nowhere plans
for nobody.
Doesn’t have a point of view,
Knows not where he’s going to,
Isn’t he a bit like you and me?
Nowhere Man please listen,
You don’t know what you’re missing,
Nowhere Man, the world is at your command!
The Beatles Nowhere Man

I find I’m moving to the rhythms of Your grace.
Your fragrance is intoxicating in our secret place.
Your love is extravagant.
Casting Crowns Your Love is Extravagant

Hello darkness, my old friend,
I’ve come to talk with you again,
Because a vision softly creeping,
Left its seeds while I was sleeping,
And the vision that was planted in my brain
Still remains
Within the sound of silence.
Simon & Garfunkel Sound of Silence

my five…

Posted by bmkeeler on July 23, 2009

movies to see:

  • away we go
  • (500) days of summer – good movie….made even better by the soundtrack and joseph gordon-levitt’s dimples
  • funny people
  • the time traveler’s wife
  • julie & julia – cute movie. made me really hungry. meryl streep completely stole the show…and I loved her with stanley tucci.

back-up choice: my sister’s keeper
[the fact that they changed the ending leaves me on the fence of whether or not I want to see this movie]

books to read:

  • neverwhere by neil gaiman
  • the pact by jodi picoult
  • water for elephants by sara gruen
  • the lightning thief by rick riordan – cute book…all the greek mythology references take me back to my junior high interests
  • twenties girl by sophia kinsella

back-up choice: pride and prejudice and zombies by jane austen, seth grahame-smith
[at first, I was a little put-off at the thought of this book, but I've heard it's a really funny take on classic Jane Austen]

dvds to rent:

  • on the town – what can I say…I’m a huge gene kelly fan
  • coraline – surprisingly simple yet creepy story.
  • how i met your mother – season 2 – every slap dished out for the on-going ‘slap bet’ payment makes me laugh out loud.
  • gone baby gone
  • bottle shock

live events to attend:

  • wicked @ the performing arts center – it was soooo good!! pink goes good with green :)
  • austin symphony big band night @ hartman concert park at the long center
  • what made milwaukee famous @ antone’s
  • paolo nutini w/anya marina @ la zona rosa – despite the skunky smell and obnoxious crowd…it was still a really good concert
  • counting crows w/augustana @ austin music hall

iTunes party shuffle, i think I love you

Posted by bmkeeler on May 29, 2009

my daily work routine involves putting on some tunes to get through the day…otherwise my (questionable) sanity would tip towards the dark side from all typing, proofing, etc…all day. popping on the itunes party shuffle is my default music solution, because if I had to hand select a list of tunes I would waste too much time fretting over what songs to play. however, I often am disappointed with the selection of itunes shuffle….which seems odd, because it is all my music. today that is not the case…I am shockingly thrilled with the selection of music that itunes has put together this morning. here’s the shuffle playlist I’m currently admiring (with no changes/deletions/additions on my part):

Nice To Meet You Anyway – Gavin DeGraw
All the Way Down – Glen Hansard
When Your Mind’s Made Up – Glen Hansard & Marketa Irglova
Hey Jude – The Beatles
Six Days at the Bottom of the Ocean – Explosions in the Sky
Unfailing Love – Jimmy Needham
Handkerchiefs – Winterpills
Simple X – Andrew Bird
Gavin’s Song – Marc Broussard
Your Hand in Mine – Explosions in the Sky
Human – Jon McLaughlin
Fly – Celine Dion
(Doin’ The) Boom Boom – Eli “Paperboy” Reed And The True Loves
She’s Gone – Daryl Hall & John Oates
My Only Offer – Mates of State
La Mar (The Ocean) – The Beautiful Girls
It’s Still Rock And Roll To Me – Billy Joel
Home – The Cinematics
Great Day Of The Lord – Andy Melvin
Where D’You Go? – Jamie Lidell
Footloose – Kenny Loggins
Already In – Jon McLaughlin
Be Thou My Vision (Open My Eyes) – Andy Melvin
Good Day – Jukebox The Ghost
Dirt Off Your Shoulder – Jay-Z
Goodnight Saigon – Billy Joel

today is gonna be a good day… :)

don't stop believin'

Posted by bmkeeler on May 19, 2009

Last night, I saw the commercial for ‘Glee’ that features ‘Don’t Stop Believin’…and (surprisingly) instead of Journey coming to mind….Petra Haden’s version from the “Guilt By Association” compilation CD immediately popped into my head…

you can hear Petra Haden’s live, acapella version here:
